ArchCon - advanced placement to Architectural and Construction Engineering Technology at George Brown College This intensive program, unique in Ontario, allows students to explore, experience and prepare for a career in the construction, design and management of our built environment while simultaneously completing high school and 1st semester college! In this six credit/one semester course, students are exposed to a rigorous combination of 1st semester concepts from the George Brown College Architectural Technology and Construction Engineering Technology Programs. Key concepts are chosen from: Construction Field Practices Housing and Small Building Construction Building Science and the Environment Architectural Technology and Sustainable Design Architectural Computer Drawing Building Industry Practices History of Architecture In addition, students recieve in-class dual credit courses in Mathematics for Building Technologies College English Computer Skills and Applications On successful completion of the program, students are graduated in time to join the January 2nd semester of either George Brown T109 Architectural Technology or T105 Construction Engineering Technology Programs. This remarkable opportunity allows a full investigation of the course materials and 3 transferable college credits at no cost. Future Degree Study Option Qualified graduates may be eligible for advanced standing in the George Brown College Bachelor of Applied Technology Degree program. George Brown has helped to prioritize and develop course materials that use the overlap in Architectural And Construction disciplines to reinforce an understanding of key course outcomes. Reach-ahead and college integration opportunities familiarize students with the George Brown Campus. Students who meet the required standard of achievement are eligible to graduate high school and 1st semester college at no cost. Who The ArchCon Program at Central Technical School is organized to match the needs of a broad range of students: Students who have a strong interest in the built environment Students examining a preference for Architecture or Construction Students who may not be immediately ready for college or the world of work Students who are mature and are prepared to graduate early from high school This program is ideal for senior students requiring 6 or less credits for graduation mature grade 11 students with 24 credits interested in early completion of high school. Career Options Architectural Technologist graduates are qualified for employment in many areas of the architectural building industry. Architectural technologists typically hold advanced responsibilities in their jobs. They work as computer drafting technologists, project administrators, sales and marketing professionals, and building officials such as plans examiners and inspectors. Graduates may also choose to operate their own architectural drafting and design businesses using sustainable building principles. Graduate construction project managers enter the industry as management assistants leading to senior-level positions as project managers, professional quantity surveyors, estimators, construction superintendents, home builders, general contractors, subcontractors and building/home inspectors. Graduates may choose to start their own businesses. Criteria for Acceptance Qualify for registration as a full-time student at Central Technical School Be available to attend an interview Bring Credit Counselling Summary and record of attendance Have a serious interest in pursuing college with the goal of becoming an Architectural or Construction Engineering Technologist Demonstrate a positive attitude towards school and work. Have a proven record of good attendance and punctuality Be within 6 credits of an OSS Diploma with no more than 2 compulsory credits to be completed Provided by student: all transportation and personal protective equipment Must be 20 years of age or under call, email or message us - we want to work with you!
