The Asia Minor Greek Historical Society (AMGHS) was formed in December 2004 by a group of Australian born Greeks of Asia Minor descent. Membership to the association is open to anyone who has an interest in Asia Minor history and culture.

The main aim of the AMGHS is to commemorate, celebrate and educate the community in the history and culture of Asia Minor. This will ensure that the contribution of the Greeks of Asia Minor is not forgotten. Most of the Asia Minor refugees who settled in Brisbane are from the Smyrna region, mainly Alatsata, Tsesme, Katopanayia as well as the city of Smyrna.(map with family names). Stories of Asia Minor Greeks from other areas in Asia Minor such as Constantinople, the Black Sea region (Pontians), Thracians or Cappadocians are also being sought. Each region of Asia Minor has its own unique character. It is envisioned that the common threads of each of these diverse areas can be woven together to provide a picture of the rich tapestry of life that existed in Asia Minor. Since its inception in 2004, the AMGHS has been collating information on Asia Minor before 1922 as well as recording the memories of the Asia Minor refugees who settled in Brisbane. Those collected so far are kept in the AMGHS Archives. A copy of the research undertaken will be sent to the State Library Queensland / John Oxley/ Archives of Queensland upon completion. In doing so, the legacy of the ‘forgotten’ culture of the Asia Minor Greeks will be preserved in perpetuity. New memberships to the association including a network of younger people are being sought to become involved in this project. The research into Asia Minor history and continues to be a great journey of discovery for the descendants of the Asia Minor refugees.The descendants of the Asia Minor refugees in Brisbane have established the Asia Minor Greek Historical Society. Positively Connecting Communities with genuine conversation and mobile laundry and shower services. We are Australia’s first mobile laundry service providing homeless people with access to free washing/drying facilities. We are a new not-for-profit organisation run by volunteers. We want to harness the energy of the community who want to help people in need. Portable washing facilities, specialised hygiene packs and an alliance with other local organisations will work to achieve these goals.

LifeFlight is a not-for-profit aeromedical charity that relies on the support of community to keep flying. Donations gratefully accepted. Every year the iconic blue and yellow choppers RACQ LifeFlight Rescue help hundreds of sick or injured patients. LifeFlight is regularly sent to serious accidents, where early medical intervention can often be the difference between life and death. Crews are made up of a Pilot, Critical Care Doctor, Aircrewman and Intensive Care Paramedic or Nurse. On standby 24/7, helicopters can be in the air within minutes of being tasked. After 35 years of service, LifeFlight’s biggest supporters are still the communities in which we operate.

Street Swags provide basic shelter to people experiencing homelessness http://www.streetswags.org Street Swags (http://www.streetswagsltd.org) has empowered and brought together all levels of community. Corporate, and private entities, donate funds to sponsor the Street Swags. Prisoners sew, gaining work readiness skills and qualifications. School children roll and package street swags with blankets, pillows, hygiene packs and knitted winter essentials. Numerous aid organisations, hospitals, community groups and volunteers distribute them across Australia. An $80 donation will provide a Street Swag to someone experiencing homelessness. A $400 donation will provide basic shelter to a family.
