Description

Throughout the U.S. there is a serious shortage of professional auto technicians. Unlike many other industries, automotive service is in constant demand. Auto manufacturers and dealers alike continue to express the need for trained technicians now and in the future. The Automotive Technology program at ACC emphasizes a real world approach to diagnostic skill building and a thorough understanding of system theory and operations. This is accomplished through the use of computer programs, audiovisuals, and hands-on experience with mockups and modern vehicles. Automotive fundamentals are developed with a generalist approach emphasizing independence in self-directed learning. Professionalism, workplace skills and responsibilities are stressed along with safety and an awareness of hazardous materials control. The Automotive Department encourages both women and men to participate in this rewarding profession. At ACC, the technical training programs are designed to meet the needs of a modern automotive service facility. The graduates of the program will have earned an Associate in Applied Science Degree or Program Certifications and be able to diagnose and repair complex vehicle problems of engines to include the ignition, fuel and emission control systems. In addition, our graduates are able to perform complex general and electronic system diagnosis and repair, to include starting and charging systems, electrical wiring, accessories and diagnosis and repairs to heating and air conditioning systems. These are just a few of the many advanced systems covered in a comprehensive technical training program.
