Alleviating certain prevalent symtoms of Autism by dietary changes
I am father of a boy with autism. He was diagnosed at the age of 4. He had no speech, was not potty trained, had a number of intense obsessive compulsive disorders, walked on toes, spinned in circles. In addition, he had a persistent red rash that would flare almost every month on his face and at various parts of his body. He was sensitive to light, noises and crowds. There was no eye contact, very limited diet and was very thin. Academically, my son was severely challenged and prognosis was dismal. As a parent and a scientist, I am compelled to document the changes and treatments we did that helped my son overcome a number of these symptoms commonly associated with ASD. With the introduction of a gluten-free diet along with full-spectrum natural fatty acid supplementation as well as minimizing the consumption of highly processed food and artificial preservatives and supplements, his autism has improved from being at the very low functioning end of the spectrum to being considered high functioning by the age of 9. We continue to see improvements every day. My son currently attends public middle school and has adjusted very well with some help from a teaching assistant. The information presented is done in an effort to educate others and may be of important use to other parents as they go along on the ASD journey with their child.
