An organization that supports families that are affected by Autism Spectrum Disorders. The Windsor Essex Chapter is the largest chapter in Ontario. We are run by a group of volunteers called the Chapter Leadership Council who meet once a month to organize fundraisers, social activities and make important decisions for the chapter. We are a registered charity who does not receive funding from the goverment. We have a Family Support Co-ordinator named Kathleen Foubister, who offers support and guidance to famiies in need. We have a Community Events Co-ordinator named Marti Lussier, who organizes events in the community such as movies, swimming, bowling, workshops and other activities that bring families together. Description

We hold fundraisers all year long such as our annual "Give Your Heart to Autism" Gala, "Oz for Autism" golf tournament. As well other generous individuals and companies hold fundraisers for us. We also receive donations in memory of those who have passed away and in celebration of those who are getting married or who have a birthday. Windsor and Essex County is such an awesome generous community. The funds we raise during the year are used to provide money to families during the summer months to be used for recereational activities such as camps, swimming horseback riding or for a one-on-one support worker. We hold an annual Summer picnic, which includes an all you can eat buffet, carnival type games, clown, Zoo 2 You, giant inflatable slides and bouncy castles, pony rides, mini golf, face painting. This is free to our members and they can bring a support worker for each child with autism. We also give a gift card to each child with autism to help out with back to school expenses. We also hold and annual Christmas Party which includes pictures with Santa, an all you can eat lunch buffet, entertainment, crafts, which is again free to members. We give another gift card at this time to help with Christmas expenses.

General Info

The cost of membership is $50 a year or you can choose a lifetime membership for $500 which can be made in monthly installments. Newsletters are sent out on a regular basis to inform members of activites and funding opportunities that are upcoming. We have volunteers that are part of the Special Education Advisory Committee (SEAC) that can assist with school related issues. We have information on support workers that are available to work with your children. We can assist you with obtaining a street sign that says "Autistic Child Area" to warn motorists in your neighbourhood to drive with caution.
