Description

We are a young family located in Calwell, Canberra and we keep chickens and quails for their fresh tasty eggs. We have a beautiful, green backyard that has been sectioned off for the chooks to roam around in. Our gorgeous hens lay fresh eggs that are bursting with flavour from spring through to autumn. In the winter they take a break from laying, where they moult and give their little bodies a well-earned rest. We keep many different breeds of chooks including Araucana, who lay green eggs, through to bantams which are a smaller variety and the good ol Isa Browns. Our flock consists of older hens who lay a few GIANT eggs each week, pullets who are about to come into lay soon and first and second season layers who usually give us an egg a day. None of our hens are kept in cages and they have free range of their yard which is abundant in kitchen scraps and greens, fresh water, dust baths, shady trees and clean weather proof housing. Each egg is laid by one of our happy hens and they taste insanely delicious. Our chooks are kept as pets and as such they are friendly and love being handled and hand fed. Each hen has a different personality and they all get along well. We have recently started raising quail for their delicate and interesting small speckled eggs. Each quail egg is laid by one of our super cute Japanese Quails and the nutritional benefit is far greater than a traditional chicken egg. It takes 3 quail eggs to make up one chicken egg in recipes and they contain less fat, more protein and a hellava lot more vitamins and minerals. Quail eggs are considered a delicacy in many parts of Europe and Asia. All of our chooks and quails are cared for with love and are protected by our Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, Eddie.
