Description

Nestled on the edge of Winnipeg’s Exchange District, and a short few blocks from the MTS Centre, is one of Canada’s most acclaimed live music and performance venues, The Burton Cummings Theatre. Named after the famed frontman of The Guess Who and Winnipegger, Burton Cummings, the theatre, affectionately known now as “The Burt” is an immediate draw with its unique appeal, both visually and sonically. The 1,581-seat theatre, both a National Historic Site of Canada and Provincial Heritage site, was built in 1906. True North Sports + Entertainment assumed management and operating control of the venue in 2014 and purchased it in 2016. Over the decades, the vaudeville era theatre has staged ballets, operas, Broadway-style shows to now modern-day concerts and events. Offering a vintage, yet carefully maintained interior space that includes a 70’ vaulted ceiling and three levels of audience seating, The Burt provides a memorable experience for both audience and performers. Under True North management, the annual event calendar has grown to include more than 70+ live entertainment events per year.

Good music happens here. West End Cultural Centre 586 Ellice Ave at Sherbrook Winnipeg, MB R3B 1Z8 phone (204)783-6918 fax (204) 783-1884 OUR STORY The West End Cultural Centre (WECC) was established in 1987 when the founders and a team of committed volunteers set out to renovate an old church into a community arts facility. The first concert ever to take place in the hall, on October 23rd of 1987, featured Spirit of the West and proved to audiences that the WECC was ready to fill a void in the music community, dedicating itself to the best in almost every genre of music and art. Since then, the WECC has entertained audiences with a large variety of productions including dance, literary readings, concerts, and festivals. Primarily a music venue, the WECC is a non-profit organization that promotes Manitoban, Canadian and international artists by fostering artistic development. We present, enable and encourage live music and artistic expression and provide a meeting place for artists and the community. Many musicians have walked through our doors on their way to stardom. Performers appreciate the intimate nature and superb sound of the theatre, as well as the dedicated audience and devoted volunteers. A few of the performers to play the WECC have been: Ron Sexsmith, Bruce Cockburn, Neko Case, No Means No, The Weakerthans, T-Model Ford, Sarah Harmer, Danny Michel, Gordon Lightfoot, Victoria Williams and Lyle Lovett.
