Cisco’s is the latest venture in a long Canberra-based food journey for former pro-basketballer Dave Nelson and his new business partner Brett Adam. For Dave, life after basketball started with take-away and home delivery Dave Nelson’s BBQ Wings and Ribs (which are so good they have remained on the menu at each of Dave’s establishments since then). Then in 2004, and following 2 years of intensive recipe research, Dave started what had always been his dream, a Mexican restaurant. Located in the quiet corners of Manuka Village, Francisco’s Mexican Cantina operated successfully for ten years on the back of great tasting Mexican food at very reasonable prices. Finding it difficult to ramp up the atmosphere in a shopping arcade, and following a suggestion from a friend (thanks Phil!), Dave decided to close the doors on Francisco’s in February 2015 and go in search of a venue that could do full justice to the food. And so, in the renowned dining destination of Kennedy Street in Kingston, Cisco’s Restaurante Mexicano was born in November 2015. Having found a venue with exactly the right rustic feel, Dave and Brett are looking to now add the extras to the fantastic food created by Dave, with Mexican inspired décor and lots of colour. New Banquet options will make Cisco’s an ideal place for groups to celebrate birthdays or any other special occasion calling for a party. A Tequila Menu with twenty different offerings of the distilled cactus pulp will complement old favourites like the frozen Margarita and Strawberry Daiquiri or the traditional Sangria. And of course there’s also a choice of Mexican and Australian Beers, apple and pear cider and a range of spirits from the bar. With friendly attentive service, a relaxed atmosphere, great food at a reasonable price, and of course the famous Margaritas, Dave and Brett are hoping that Canberrans will enjoy something that’s been missing for years, a good fun Mexican Restaurant.
