Description

The philosophy of my teachings is guided by an underlying set of principles taught by the great sage T. Krishnamacharya, passed on via his esteemed students AG & Indra Mohan and TKV Desikachar. It includes: •The conscious linking of the breath and movement to bring about stillness of the mind; •Correct breathing and its effect on the mind and body; •Adapting and tailoring the Yoga practice according to individual people’s needs; •Postures, breathing and meditation are intelligently designed and sequenced; •Sthira Sukham Asanam, the practice should be effortless and pleasant while building on one’s strength; •Practice is non-competitive; •Classes are small to allow for individual attention; •Focus on the mind first, it is about letting go of all the thoughts in the mind so we can return to the true nature of ourselves – inner peace; •Students are guided, not instructed, providing the space for them to explore and learn things about themselves for themselves; •The function of the asana is much more important that the form of the posture; •The aim of Yoga is to gain freedom from our mind and the practise of the Eight Limbs of Yoga in Patanjali’s Yogasutras helps with this.
