The Hall Building (H) is central to the downtown campus and houses classrooms, several student services, cultural spaces, student housing, a job bank, a theatre, a coffee shop and an outdoor terrace. Most of the social sciences departments are here. The 7th floor has a student lounge with comfortable chairs and coffee tables. It is a utilitarian, cube-shaped, 1960s-style high-rise university building made of pre-fabricated stressed concrete.

General Info

April 17, 1964 - Official Ground Breaking ceremony for the Henry F. Hall Building at SGWU May 8, 1965 - Laying of the cornerstone of the Henry F. Hall Building at SGWU. The cornerstone receptacle contains a time capsule. October 14, 1966 - Official opening of the Henry F. Hall Building, which includes laboratories, the Science & Engineering Library, a theatre, cafeteria, and closed circuit TV Communication Centre. In 1994-95 the exterior of the building, damaged by time, acid rain and the elements, was cleaned and painted, and windows were repaired. Other major repairs took place in 1998-99. The Hall Building is undergoing much-needed major renovations and updating. The eighth floor got a spiffy facelift in 2003-04, and the seventh, eleventh and twelfth floors were done in 2005. The building once again features state-of-the-art media-equipped classrooms and the center core of the renovated floors has been opened up to create light-infused people spaces. Renovations and upgrading of the remaining floors are taking place over the next several years, with renovations to the tenth floor next on the schedule. The new School of General Studies will move to this area. Meanwhile, auditoria throughout the building have been renovated and more 100-seat classroom spaces will be added to the upper floors in 2008. Elevators were replaced in 2007-2008 with larger units. The building has been equipped with wireless access, and renovations and upgrading of classrooms continues as funding becomes available. In 2009-10, most Social Sciences academic departments were concentrated in the Hall Building. The aging escalators are being replaced in 2011-12.
