Life and sight for every child. http://www.daisyfund.org
Retinoblastoma is an aggressive childhood eye cancer. 95% of children develop tumours before 3 years of age. The most common early sign is a white pupil seen in flash photos and dim light. Retinoblastoma is highly curable. More than 96% of children survive in the developed world, but many lose one or both eyes and precious sight due to late diagnosis and sub-optimal care. More than 90% of affected children live in developing countries where access to specialist care is limited at best. 4 in 5 of these precious children die, but their suffering and loss is entirely preventable. In both developed and developing countries, children’s lives and sight will be saved by increasing awareness, access to existing treatments and compassionate family support. We are committed to bringing the promise of life and sight to every child with retinoblastoma, and ending needless suffering from this cancer. In developing countries, we aim to close the vast survival gap by building local capacity to provide world-class care in a resource-limited setting. Local sustainability is our long term goal. Simple changes, small investment and dedicated vision can make a radical and lasting difference to the lives of our world's youngest and most vulnerable cancer warriors, and to their families.
