Description

Yoga for persons of darker cultural sensibilities. Ritual for support and processing of life. Dawn J Collins is a yoga therapist and has worked in the healing arts for over 10 years. She began her career in academia studying social development, political science, eastern philosophy and psychology. Later began to work as a: counsellor, case manager and, program facilitator with Safe Spaces Fundy Inc. and later Coverdale Centre where she received mentorship under a social worker for 3 years and trained in Cognitive Behavioural Counselling, Reality Therapy and Positive Psychology specializing in Addiction Recovery, Trauma Recovery and Support for persons in transition. Later her personal journey brought her to studies with multiple Reiki Sensei’s (lineage available by request) where she was attuned to the Second Degree Usui Reiki Practitioner Level and is currently working on her Master’s certification. Dawn has been providing Reiki treatments for 6 years. Further Dawn added to her toolbox Yoga Teacher Training in 2010 with a 9 month program provided by Atlantic Yoga Teacher Training affiliated with the Kripalu School of Yoga and the Atlantic Yoga Teachers Association. For the last 4 years Dawn has taught at: Coverdale Centre, Saint John Canada Games Aquatic Centre, Natural Moves Yoga and Bellydance, Saint John Regional Correctional Centre, NSCAD, and currently in addition to Ocean Yoga at the IWK for the children’s acute mental health ward. Dawn has additionally been trained to provide Emotional Freedom Techniques and Touch Therapy alongside her other services. Today Dawn provides all of these offerings as appropriate for clients with a focus on meeting people where they are to hold a container and support them directly in processing life experiences and the attainment of their goals. Dawn is also teaching classes as indicated on the Ocean Yoga schedule focusing on mindfulness, safe and effective practice for the achievement of personal goals in line with most current research on the effects of Yogic practices. Dawn is committed to continuous study on effective practice and assuring that alternative health care is accessible to all. Prices include a generosity policy – Pay what you can. Appropriate exchange encouraged for good Karmic balance, may include barter or alternative methods as well.
