I'm an artist depicted through a camera. Fear speaks on a level hard to explain, so I recreate those moments, showing that the beast can be overcome.

Description

I had always found it hard to speak for fear of hearing my own voice fail. Alas, that fear worsened when tragedy struck me, pulling myself into a deeper and darker shell than before, I became someone I myself didn’t even recognize. As the years slowly went by, I lost all my drive to write and create; the drive to survive and live and feed the artistic hunger dwelling and expanding inside my belly. There was nothing I was able to put on that piece of paper because my mind was blank, empty, denying the feelings and emotions that tumbled within. The life of photography appealed to me. A silent medium, no vocal communication, it was perfect. It was all I needed to get away from what haunted me. However, college forced me into performing uncomfortable tasks, telling me that I should change my vision. Suddenly, my camera was no longer a love, it was an enemy. I was falling down a rabbit hole of arms grabbing at me and voices yelling at me when I realized that in that moment of nightmarish fear, I envisioned worlds where I could go. I had figured out that the lens of my camera has never been my eye. It has and always will be my voice. My work is based on the journey of fearing survival to surviving the fear, signifying that those feelings of apprehension and terror that reach to our cores, those things that are believed we have no control over are the very essence of the things that are troublesome to get past. The tranquility and fragmented fear that I acquire from photographing and creating images like this, deep and powerful, allow expression and that is all any authentic artist could ever hope for; the freedom of expression.
