Description

DINK will create a fun, first-class expo emphasizing the independent spirit, cultural relevance, imagination, and community of comics, graphic novels, zines, art, publishers, and fans with a mission to promote and further the impact of their work on the world. Internationally renowned creators as well as local artists will appear. DINK is being led by Nerd Riot Production’s Charlie LaGreca (co-founder of Denver Comic Con) along with an experienced and award-winning team (which includes fellow Denver Comic Con co-founder Frank Romero) whose collective experience spans conventions, event production, comics, books, art, music, podcasts, theater, film, and publishing. “Since envisioning Denver Comic Con,” LaGreca says, “I have always felt there was a place in the Rocky Mountain region for a unique show like DINK. It’s a great privilege to be working with an inspired team that I know will create an artistic show that honors the heritage and current innovation of sequential storytelling and the artistic landscape surrounding it.” The historic, picturesque Sherman St. Event Center will provide the vibrant space for this tremendous exhibition to thrive. DINK will span four floors with over 12,000 square feet of exhibitor and programming space, and it will feature upwards of 150 creators, cartoonists, artists, and illustrators. The building, built in 1907, is located downtown near many locally owned restaurants, bars, and retail shops. It will provide a distinct, vintage vibe to DINK that sets the expo apart from the sterile backdrop of larger comic conventions. DINK will give back to the community by working with nonprofit organizations like Denver Drink & Draw and Love Hope Strength Foundation and will also involve an annual program which provides a weeklong, outdoor mountain camp with a focus on comics, literacy, and art for underserved, inner-city youth. Says LaGreca, “Giving back has always been an intrinsic part of the events that I’ve created. Coming from a large, working-class family, I was so fortunate to discover the wider world out there through comics, and as a result I have always wanted to embrace and discover a way to unlock that potential for others.” Additional plans, programming, guests, and more will be announced in the coming months as well as a full website launch mid September, 2015. DINK will focus on nurturing and showcasing independent comic books, graphic novels, and alternative art forms as part of a well-crafted event with creators, cartoonists, guests, small-press publishers, and vendors.
