Dragana Pilavdzic, MD, FRCPC, FCAP, CSPQ, is a well-versed pathologist working at Lakeridge Health Oshawa in Oshawa, Quebec, Canada. An internationally renowned breast pathology expert, she is also an Assistant Professor for the Laboratory Medicine & Pathobiology Division at the University of Toronto Faculty of Medicine and is on staff at The Laboratory Medicine Program (LMP) at the University Health Network. The Laboratory Medicine Program (LMP) at UHN is the largest hospital diagnostic lab in Canada. “I am interested in quality assurance of multidisciplinary approach to breast pathology (malignant, borderline and benign lesions) combining clinical, imaging and pathology findings and immunohistochemistry, in particular breast biomarkers”, states Dr. Pilavdzic about her research interests. As a pathologist, she has dedicated training and unique experience in the diagnosis of disease based on the laboratory analysis of bodily fluids such as blood and urine, as well as tissues, using the tools of chemistry, clinical microbiology, hematology, and molecular pathology. Following her residency training, Dr. Pilavdzic worked in Winnipeg for four years until 2000 and then moved to Montreal where she worked in a general surgical pathology practice in St. Mary’s Hospital. “She developed an interest in breast pathology and moved to subspecialty breast practice at the Jewish General Hospital in Côte-Sainte-Catherine, Montreal, Quebec, and McGill University in 2007. Since then, her practice has focused on breast diagnostics and breast biomarkers with a primary interest in quality assurance. She is also actively involved in teaching of medical students, residents and fellows”, states the official website of UHN.
