"Learning about my own beloved, curly mess has inspired me to help others learn about their own hair," says Megan. She started doing friends hair as well as her own as a teenager growing up in Kingston Springs, TN. After graduating from high school she attended Middle Tennessee State University, but was unsure about her career path until she realized what she had been doing for many years – helping people with their hair. She decided to attend Tennessee Technology Center’s hair design program in Nashville. She had completed about half of the program when she was forced to leave school due to a severe illness. She began researching organic hair care "as a way to pursue my passion while still remaining healthy." She received her hair license in 2010 after graduating from The Salon Professional Academy in Nashville. In 2011, Megan began working for Dillard’s Salon & Spa at Rivergate Mall in Goodlettsville because it was an Aveda concept salon. Unsatisfied by the corporate environment, she decided to leave the salon to travel the US with her boyfriend volunteering on farms via WWOOF (World Wide Opportunities on Organic Farms). They spent time at farms in Texas and Idaho and later returned to Nashville. She started at Studio Green in June 2013. After a year at Studio Green, the studio closed after losing their beloved 5 points space. Megan soon moved to Hair Mama Jones located in Marathon Village. "I'm very excited about the new space. It's hip and eclectic... a great fit for myself and my clients." "I really love being able to bring my own personal passions to work. Being organic is something I believe in. It’s a healthier and smarter choice. Why not?" she said. She likes the O’right smoothing hair lotion as it helps to smooth hair without being heavy and is a nice alternative for those with finer hair as it doesn’t become greasy or weigh hair down. When it comes to tips for her clients she tries to give them a hands-on approach. She helps her clients find hair styles they can manage themselves at home. Her Personality She describes herself as witty, funny and laid-back. She likes to form trusting relationships with her clients so she understands who they are and their hair needs. She lives in East Nashville where she and her boyfriend keep a large vegetable garden as well as 6 chickens and a rabbit. She has two dogs, Dahlia, a Heeler/Catahoula mix and Didymus, a terrier mix. She loves her little homestead in the hood.
