Drewry Secondary School is a small specialized vocational secondary school located in North York, Ontario owned by the North York Board of Education until its merger into the Toronto District School Board. The original school was established in 1965 as Lewis S. Beattie and in 1989, the school moved to the former Drewry Elementary School.HistoryLewis S. Beattie Secondary School opened its doors in 1965 by the North York Board of Education. The school was named after a former superintendent of secondary education for the province of Ontario.In 1989, the school moved to the former Drewry Elementary School as the school was renamed to Drewry Secondary School. The Beattie campus was given to the Metropolitan Separate School Board / Les Conseil des écoles catholiques du Grand Toronto (now the Toronto Catholic District School Board) as École secondaire catholique Monseigneur-de-Charbonnel which it opened in 1985.OverviewDrewry Secondary School is a small special needs school with a clear focus on providing appropriate academic and life skills courses for students in a safe and nurturing environment. The curriculum addresses social/emotional needs, functional life skills, and employability skills. Drewry has small classes with extensive remediation, and a wide variety of co-curricular activities such as athletics, martial arts, weight training, clubs (e.g. Girls' Group, Dance), field trips, and staff-student sporting events. Placement at Drewry is completed through the quadrant coordinators, according to the student's exceptionality.
