Description

The Eye Bank of B.C. is a not-for-profit organization within Vancouver Coastal Health. In 1983 the EBBC was established as the provincial referral centre to deal with British Columbia's needs for ocular tissue for transplant, research and education. Through the eye bank families are offered the opportunity to donate their loved one's eyes. This immeasurable gift from a single donor can restore sight to up to two people who are currently blind. Donations: To support the Eye Bank of B.C. through financial donations please go to the VGH & UBC Hospital Foundation at: Phone: 604-875-4676 Online: www.worldclasshealthcare.ca (To choose the eye bank as the recipient please choose 'eye bank' from the drop down list.) Currently the Eye Bank is raising money for an 'Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT) Machine'. This machine uses the latest technology to measure the thickness of a cornea utilizing light. The accuracy of this machine will allow the eye bank technicians to more accurately measure and therefore process the cornea for transplant.
