Description

I am a mother of four great kids and needed some products that I feel comfortable with to replace the chemical products we were using. My daughter has asked for years to be able to use deodorant, and is still young enough not to need it. I would tell her no because of all the chemicals and links to health issues using antiperspirants. Then one day I wondered why I would allow my son and myself to be using such harmful ingredients on our bodies. The more research I did the more I realized how harmful some of these products can be to our bodies as well as how quickly the chemicals we put on our skin are absorbed. I figured if it was not healthy to eat then it was not healthy enough for our skin and so began my quest. My goal was to develop products that are going to do a great job as well as keep my family healthy. I figured more people are just like me and finding out how horrible some of these products are as well and thought I could help them on their quest to keep healthy as well. So began Four You because it was all for them.

If you are after a scrub for your lips. You can use the sugar scrub or you could make your own using an oil of your choice (just make sure it is edible since it is on your lips) and baking soda. Make it into a paste and use. The baking soda will not be as exfoliating as the sugar scrub.

Getting into the warmer months we tend to slather on the sunscreen and go out and play. Just sharing some information and you can make your own conclusions. It never hurts to get more information before drawing a conclusion. There have been a number of recent and not so recent studies about sunscreens and increased skin cancer. Research ingredients before the season begins and just an fyi I use Raspberry Seed Oil daily on my face for its spf qualities :) Happy Tuesday.

I am revamping the Day Plus and have a couple of people testing it for me. Depending on how it goes I may end up with a Night Time Plus as well :)

Sorry so late but I got in before the end of the day :) Vapor Rub: Coconut oil, Beeswax, Menthol, Eucalyptus oil, Camphor oil, Peppermint oil and Orange oil. This is one we use a lot during the year. There are cautions associated with it because of the camphor. We love it. For years now I have only used a vapor rub (store bought initially) when I had a cold. Having kids that would wake up through the night I could not take anything that "helped" me sleep because I knew I would not wake up to them crying. I use it on all of my kids and it really does a great job when they have colds. It works as a sort of cough suppressant. Some people put it on their feet with socks at night. I just apply to the chest and under the nose for inhalation. This is one we always have a jar of on hand. 2oz for $5.

Body butters are the topic today :) Shea Butter, Almond oil, Coconut oil, Beeswax, Vitamin E oil. They come in a variety of scents as well Lavender, Peppermint, Ylang Ylang and Lemongrass. My favorite at the moment is the floral scent of Ylang Ylang. A little goes a long way with the body butter. It is great rubbed on sugar scrubbed hands, arms, legs... I like applying a generous amount to my feet at night time, putting on some socks and going to bed. My feet feel so much softer in the morning. I keep the smaller size in my purse which works out great. Moisturizers absorb and moisturize better if the skin has been sugar scrubbed first. The smaller size is 2 oz for $3.50 and the 6 oz size for $8.50

It has been some crazy days but back to discussing different products :) Relaxing Foot Rub: Coconut oil, Olive oil, Beeswax,Ylang Ylang, Lavender, Orange, Lemon, Geranium and Grapefruit oils. The purpose of this is to help you relax before going to sleep at night. It is not thick so it is easily absorbed. You can rub it all over your feet or just under your toes depending on how much you want to use. It is great for softening feet as well. The oils I chose are calming oils and have great relaxation benefits. It is recommended to put socks on so that the oils do not get on your sheets but that is just a suggestion you are free to do what suits you. I just did not want cleaning bills sent to me ;) It sells in 2 oz containers and is $7 each. I can give out samples as well for $1 each. Have a spectacular weekend.

I hope everyone is enjoying this beautiful (at least where I am :) ) Thursday. I am working on products and working on a special buy through Natural Living Co-op on Facebook. If you are not a member of the group you could join before next week. I will be running a special on all of my products. The details will be finalized the beginning of next week. It is a local co-op so the deals will only be for local purchases this time.

Since there are no events during the summer until October I will be developing new products, redesigning labels, tweaking a couple of existing products and working on setting up my website. Are there any products you all would like me to develop? So far I have the cold sore lip balm and firming eye cream in the works.

I am going to be unreachable from Friday and back again on Monday. So if I do not respond until Monday you will know I am not ignoring you :) The Hair Conditioning treatment has been quite popular lately so I will discuss this one today: Coconut oil, Vitamin E oil and Avocado oil with Lavender essential oil. I made this when my daughters hair was to the point of me cutting it all off because it was so tangled and I could not get it smooth at all. She would use normal store bought conditioner but it just was not enough. There were days where I could not brush through it at all and would end up putting it in a bun. She had long hair and I really did not want to chop it all off. I developed this because coconut oil is great on hair but I wanted more. Avocado oil is a heavier oil and works great in balance with the coconut oil. The lavender and Vit E oils are so healing that I knew they had to go in to this as well. We tried it and after the first use her hair was back to soft and shiny hair. It lasted about 3 weeks (it never got as bad as it was initially) and then we did it again and it did great again. The 4 oz bottle lasts a long time because you do not have to do it often and you do not have to use much each time (depending on how long your hair is). Some people put a little in their palms and just add it to the ends of their hair and leave it in. Others do as the directions state and you wash your hair as normal then apply the Conditioning Treatment making sure to get around well. Rinse with the hot water so that it will then go all over your hair and leave in. I wrap my hair in a hair towel and go about my day then 4 hours later or overnight wash and condition as usual. The 4 oz bottle is $5.50 and I can make it without the lavender if you prefer.

Today I have a sick child so I guess it is the perfect day to talk about the Hand Cleanser on the Go :) Essential oils do not add to drug resistant bacteria and they are effective in killing bacteria as well as viruses. I used a variety of EO's so that it would be more effective against more yucky bugs. It is Aloe Vera based so it is not going to burn your skin like the alcohol based cleansers do. There are studies coming out and hospitals actually starting to use Thyme EO and Cinnamon EO in killing super bugs. This is a direct quote from Everyday Roots regarding Witch Hazel "Why witch hazel (optional): Witch hazel can work as an antiseptic, and the reason it does so is because it contains alcohol, which disrupts the cell membrane of the bacteria, denatures its proteins, ultimately kills it. While witch hazel does not contain the 70% concentration of alcohol that would be needed to match store-bought hand sanitizers (60%-70% is usually the baseline suggested for making a true dent in killing germs) the added essential oils are what we rely on to kill a lot of the illness causing germs and bacteria." There are so many yucky ingredients in store bought hand sanitizers and I really do not like that. I want to feel safe about the ingredients and not be afraid of my children eating something after using hand cleanser. If there is running water and soap that is the best choice but often we are out and about and need hands cleaned. Also there is the sickly child who is laying on the couch coughing and blowing her nose every minute or so and needs hands cleaned after each touch or cough. It is more convenient. My Hand Cleanser on the Go is $4.50.

The weather is getting cooler which for me usually means drying skin and cracking hands. I find staying hydrated, sugar scrubs with an oil base and lotion and/or body butters work the best to keep my hands looking and feeling good.

I got some cute bookmarks done for the business that I will be handing out at the Chandler Farmers Market on Thursday 3-7pm. I have also restocked the Bug Spray. I do not know about you but those mosquitoes are just not going away and considering I sold out last week I think many of you are having the same issues. Remember you can make a paste of coconut oil and baking soda and put it on bites to help relieve the sting.

I have had to change my black soap supplier so unfortunately I will not have the body wash available today at the Farmers Market. We have everything else available though. If you are after something that needs to be custom made please let me know by Tuesdays for Thursdays Farmers Market. I am happy to make changes to accommodate as long as I can. If you have a specific Sugar Scrub want please let me know then as well. Excited to kick off the new season today. See you all tonight 3-7pm.

I have had a number of people asking about me making a shampoo. I have tried a lot of recipes and have not found one that would work for my hair at all. The Body Wash that I make can be used as a shampoo but for fine hair it does not do a good job, it works best for coarse hair. You can look up Black Soap shampoo to see if it would work for your hair type. The only "natural" shampoo that I have found that I like is a shampoo bar. It is just like a soap bar you just use it on your hair. I bought mine through Azure Standard if you are looking for info on them. So with that being said I do not plan on making a shampoo bar. I do not have time at this point in my life to add one more "hobby" to my plethora of hobbies/businesses :) So after almost a year of researching and trying different shampoos this is what I found to work best with my hair. Conditioner is still needed.

Published on 2015-09-29 19:29:43 GMT

I am still amazed at what people and businesses can pass as "natural" ingredients. I saw a kiosk at Costco last week with "natural no chemical" body products. So of course I had to look at ingredients. I knew what maybe 5 of the ingredients on the back were, one was petroleum. The list was long too. So just as an FYI if you are trying to avoid chemicals and trying to go all natural please read the labels. If you can not pronounce it (with the exception of a few crazy long essential oil names lol) then I would put it down and research the ingredients. Do not just go by the label. Have a fabulous Monday. I am spending it making products for Thursday :)
