James Cook University (JCU) is Australia's leading tropical research university and among the top five tropical universities of the world in the University's areas of research excellence (ecology/environment, plant and animal science, geosciences, coral reef science and tourism). The University's tropical focus underpins its research mission, which has two complementary themes reflecting the University's tropical and regional location. The JCU Graduate Research School (GRS) welcomes students from all around Australia and from more than 60 countries overseas. The GRS operates a wide variety of research skills and professional development courses. The GRS also offers a range of writing, editing and critical thinking courses, including SKIP (Skills for International Postgraduates).
