General Info

Things To Do Nearby… Breakfast Creek Hotel - 5 minutes walk west along Kingsford Smith Drive One of the most famous drinking spots in Queensland, the Breakfast Creek Hotel is renowned for its premium quality steaks and “Beer off the Wood” - both of these being available 7 days a week. There are 5 different bars to choose from, including a beer garden and also a speciality rum bar. Events are held regularly, such as sports screenings (particularly UFC), live music, and drinks specials. The prices are fairly high, particularly the steaks, but the beautiful Renaissance-style building and the lovely view over Brekky Creek make it well worth the visit. https://www.breakfastcreekhotel.com Albion Park Raceway - 3 minutes walk along Yulestar Street Lying directly behind us is Albion Park Raceway. There is greyhound racing every Monday and Thursday evening (from 6:30pm), every Wednesday afternoon (from 3:00pm) and every Sunday (from 5:00pm). Tuesday, Friday and Saturday nights are for the horse harness racing. Admission is free at all meetings. Saturday night is probably the busiest and best, with the first race just after 5pm and the last finishing at 9pm. There are great value meals and drinks on offer at the Pacesetters bistro on the main grandstand, a solid meat/veg meal costing only around $16. Here is also the place for a flutter, with a full modern betting auditorium. For a more up-market race-day experience, the Silks Seafood Buffet on Saturdays has an excellent reputation for fine dining. http://aphrc.com.au & http://www.brisgreys.com Craft Breweries - 20-30 minutes walk into Newstead/Tenerife or 5 min bus ride For craft beer enthusiasts, we are within walking distance of two excellent breweries. The Newstead Brewing Co. lives on Doggett Street inside a 1940s steel warehouse. The vibe is comfortable and laid back, as patrons sit directly alongside the large, shiny brewing tanks. 12 draught taps house 6 in-house beers, 1 cider, and 5 guest beers on rotation. Simple, hearty food is also on offer to compliment the booze, including lunch specials on select weekdays for just $10! If that doesn’t quite quench your thirst then The Green Beacon Brewing Co. lies just around the corner on Helen St. also offering some really unique boutique brews. Green Beacon has a trendy, upbeat buzz and a food menu that consists of share plates, seafood, bagels and bar snacks; the entrance to the warehouse also plays host to a rotating roster of Brisbane’s best food trucks. http://newsteadbrewing.com.au & http://www.greenbeacon.com.au Cinema – 30-40 minutes by bus or ferry If you want to catch a flick at any point during your stay the best option is to visit a Cineplex cinema by either catching the 300 bus to the South Bank or the City Cat ferry from Bretts Wharf across the river to Balmoral. South Bank has a bigger, multiplex feel; Balmoral is smaller, more luxurious and vintage cinema. A top tip is that adult tickets are just $6.50 all day on Tuesdays and all other weekdays before 6pm! http://www.cineplex.com.au Eat Street Markets - Friday & Saturday Nights 4pm-10pm, 30 min walk to Northshore Hamilton Set on an old disused container wharf, ‘Eat Street Markets’ is a wonderful place to sample a plethora of international cuisine amongst the enchanting sights and sounds of live music and entertainment. Gourmet burgers, Japanese pizzas, Mexican, European, and desserts, there is something to suit all tastes here, and it’s no surprise that it can get pretty crowded. Entrance will cost you $2.50 for adults, but children 12 and under are free. Dogs are welcome provided they are people friendly, on a short leash and able to be carried if you take them into congested areas. https://www.eatstreetmarkets.com
