My name is Dave Johnston and I want to welcome you to our Karate Club. As head Instructor and founder of Kyokushin Toowoomba, I’d like to give you some information to assist you in understanding more about our club and Karate. By profession I am an Accredited Exercise Physiologist, Strength and Conditioning Coach/ Rehabilitation Specialist. My aim for ‘Kyokushin Toowoomba’ is for students to develop all facets of character through karate. Students can become stronger mentally and physically; increase confidence; develop stamina; learn the art of karate; develop discipline, courtesy and humility; participate in training which you can maintain for your whole life. Through these developed traits students are equipped to address life’s challenges and to seek and achieve positive outcomes in all situations. (As karate is an individual discipline, the practice of this martial art will assist students to become successful autonomous learners.) We cater for students who want to train on the National and International competition circuit and to members who just want a fun and challenging way to get fit. Our kid’s karate classes are age specific so we can target little ones with developmental exercises, building foundation skills, physical and social confidence. I started martial arts training when I was about 8 years of age with Budokan Judo. In 1985 I started Tae Kwon Do, gaining 1st Dan in 1987. I commenced Kyokushinkai Karate in 1988 and graded to Nidan in 1999. I have trained in various dojos around the world including Kyokushin Kaikan Honbu in Tokyo. I have also trained in other karate styles. I have been leading Kyokushin karate classes since 1993. I enjoyed competing in tournaments. I learnt that it wasn’t about the goal, but about the journey that I took to achieve the goal. All the years of training, for me came down to these moments. your first lesson is free, so come along and have a go. KIDS CLASSES: Tuesdays and Thursdays 3:45-4:45pm ADULTS CLASSES: Tuesday's and Thursday's 6.00pm - 7.30pm.
