Roma In the summer of 1927 - to the great pleasure of sports lovers in Rome – Associazione Sportiva Roma was born, following the merging of three Rome-based sports clubs, Fortitudo-Proroma, Roma Football Club and Alba-Audace. As reported via the major daily newspapers of the time (including Il Messaggero and the Rome edition of the Gazzetta dello Sport) the agreement was reached in the late afternoon of 7 June 1927, with the definition of the club’s organisational chart and operations. While on 22 July 1927, the honourable Italo Foschi laid out the agenda for the first official meeting at the council offices at via Uffici del Vicario 35. Foschi had already held several meetings in the months previous with the presidents of the other three clubs with the aim of bringing Rome sportsmen together to create a great team capable of beating the Northern sides. The colors of the Capitol Gonfalon, yellow and red, became the team colors. Fascinated by the Greek myth of Olimpia, Lazio Club, born a few years earlier, did not even consider these colors. That decision may have been hard to understand by the masses that better recognized themselves in the colors of Capitol flag. This was probably the main reason why Roma became suddenly very popular, beloved by people of the old districts and of the city suburbs.
