Description

The Manar al-Athar website, based at the University of Oxford, aims to provide high resolution, searchable images for teaching, research, and publication. These images of archaeological sites, with buildings and art, will cover the areas of the former Roman empire which later came under Islamic rule, such as Syro-Palestine/the Levant, Arabia, Egypt, North Africa and Spain. The chronological range is from Alexander the Great (i.e., from about 300 BC) through, the Islamic period to the present. It is the first website of its kind providing such material labelled jointly in both Arabic and English. We will also be publishing related material, both online and on paper, in English and Arabic. يهدف موقع منار الآثار الإلكتروني، التابع لجامعة أكسفورد، إلى تزويدكم بصور عالية الجودة للغايات العلمية والتعليمية والبحثية؛ إذ تحتوي الصور على نماذج معمارية وفنية لمواقع أثرية كانت ضمن مناطق الإمبراطورية الرومانية السابقة والتي وقعت لاحقاً تحت الحكم الإسلامي: مثل بلاد الشام وبعض أجزاء الجزيرة العربية ومصر وشمال أفريقيا وأسبانيا. تمتد الفترة الزمنية لهذه المواقع الأثرية من أيام الإسكندر المقدوني (حوالي 300 قبل الميلاد) والفترة الإسلامية إلى الوقت الحاضر. يعد موقع منار الآثار الإلكتروني الأول من نوعه الذي يزود روّاده بمواد معنونة باللغتين العربية والإنجليزية معاً. فضلاً عن ذلك سيتم نشر مواد ذات صلة بالموضوع على الموقع الإلكتروني و بشكل ورقي باللغتين الإنجليزية والعربية

General Info

Manar al-Athar is Arabic for "Guide to Archaeology" and has been chosen because Manara, in Egypt, refers to both the Lighthouse of Alexandria (the Pharos) and to minarets. This conveys the transition, and often continuity, covered by the chronological range of the material. قمنا بتسمية هذا الموقع بـ منار الآثار ليكون مصدراً علمياً لدراسي علم الآثار والحضارات القديمة؛ نسبةً الى منارة الاسكندرية في مصر، ونتمنى أن نكون قد وفقنا باختيار الاسم المناسب لهذا الموقع Aims of Image Archive a. to provide freely-downloadable images at high resolution for research and publication, as well as at low resolution for powerpoint slides for teaching; b. to make images freely available for publication simply by acknowledging the source (no form-filling); (see Copyright http://www.manar-al-athar.ox.ac.uk/copyright.html) c. to have simple labels with a concentration on accurate and standardized labels, using metadata (explained under Photo Archive) for easy searching and organizing, with bilingual text in Arabic and English to facilitate the use of the images for both teaching and research in the Arab world, where most of the monuments are located. d. to present the images in a structured way that is simple and easy to follow, moving from the whole building to details, to show their context. All images on this page and on the Manar al-Athar website are either licensed to or owned by the University of Oxford. Use of these images is governed by the section entitled ‘Licence’ on the Manar al-Athar website (See Copyright http://www.manar-al-athar.ox.ac.uk/copyright.html) الأهداف المرجوة من الأرشفة الالكترونية للصور أ - تحميل صور ذات جودة عالية ومجانية؛ لغايات البحث والنشر العلمي، فضلاً عن صور لغايات الاستعمال في العرض من خلال برنامج بَاوَرْبُوينت – PowerPoint - للغايات التعليمية ب – أن تكون الصور المحمّلة للنشر مجانية، وما على المستخدم لهذه الصور سوى ذكر مصدرها حفاظاً على حقوق النشر والملكية الفكرية – ليس هناك حاجة إلى تعبئة نموذج أو طلب (انظر بند حقوق الطبع) ج. استخدام التسميات البسيطة مع التركيز على أن تكون أسماء الصور دقيقة وموحدة، من خلال استخدام منظومة المعلومات الهيكلية (metadata) (انظر الفقرة أرشيف الصور)، وذلك لتسهيل عملية البحث واستعمال النص باللغتين الإنكليزية والعربية على المستخدم للصور لأهداف التدريس والبحث العلمي في العالم العربي، حيث تقع الغالبية العظمى من هذه المعالم الأثرية د. عرض الصور بطريقة منظمة وبسيطة، ليسهل عرضها والانتقال من التفاصيل العامة إلى التفاصيل الدقيقة جميع الصور الموجودة في موقع منار الآثار إما مرخصة تحت اسم جامعة أكسفورد أو تملكها. لا يجوز إستعمال هذه الصور إلا وفق ما ورد ذكره في فقرة "الرخصة” أدناه http://www.manar-al-athar.ox.ac.uk/copyright.html
