Mills Edwin Godwin High School is located in The West End of Henrico County, Virginia. The school is operated by Henrico County Public Schools.HistoryGodwin High School opened in 1980. There are close to 2,000 students in the student body. Freeman High School is Godwin's biggest rival. A newer rival is Deep Run High School. The school was named in honor of Mills E. Godwin Jr. (1914–1999) who was Governor of Virginia for two terms.Science, Math, and Technology CenterThe Science, Mathematics, and Technology Specialty Center housed at Mills E. Godwin High School opened in the fall of 1994. This center is among the other specialty centers in Henrico highschools. Its purpose is to promote and support the expansion of opportunities for high school students. An application process must be completed to be accepted into the Center. The Specialty Center provides students the opportunity to pursue scientific and mathematical courses, and offers exclusive classes for them to take. Specialty Center students are required to enter science fair competitions at least once a year.Specialty Center facilitiesThere are 6 classrooms and 2 dedicated wet labs in the specialty center. The facility fosters investigative work by providing students with space and equipment necessary to complete independent research projects without interruption or handling by other students and teachers. The equipment includes a BSL 2 safety hood available for teaching microbiological techniques and for use in student projects, an inverted microscope with camera attached, a gas chromatograph, a Genesis spectrophotometer and a MyCycler PCR machine.
