The City of Mississauga does not permit campaigning in City facilities or on City property. This includes the City’s electronic social media pages.
The City must be impartial during municipal election campaigns, and would not endorse any candidate for any reason. Use of the City’s social media channels in an election campaign might confuse the public and imply the City’s endorsement of a candidate in an election.
The City’s electronic social media pages are considered City property. Therefore, Candidates, supporters of Candidates and the general public cannot post campaign information on City social media pages. Any and all posts by or for candidates running for office in the 2014 municipal elections will be removed by the City. This is in accordance with legislative requirements and citizens’ expectations.
