The second, annual Music City Irish Fest will be held on Saturday March 12, 2016 from 11 am - 11 pm on Demonbreun Hill from the Musica Roundabout to 14th Ave. The street festival is FREE and open to all ages. There will be authentic Irish music and dancing, crafts, gift items, instruments, food and beer as the city of Nashville goes green for St. Patrick’s Day weekend. Nashville and Belfast, Northern Ireland are Sister Cities and that needs to be celebrated - and what better time of the year than St. Patrick’s Day? So this year Nashville is throwing a party in a big way with an annual festival to celebrate Irish music, dance, sport, culture and travel to commemorate the Belfast Nashville relationship. Past St. Patrick’s Days in Music City have made national headline news with the pranking of the Musica Statue, the 40 foot statue of 9 naked people dancing on the iconic Music Row Roundabout. The Willis Clan pulled the shenanigans by sewing kilts and blouses and clothing the nude figures during the middle of the night. The city awakened to the most epic prank that had ever been pulled south of the Mason-Dixon line. Headlining the Music City Irish Fest will be We Banjo 3 - one of the most sought after bands touring the Irish festival circuit. They are without a doubt the new gold-standard of traditional Irish and American roots music. In the last dozen years, no traditional band has had a wider impact on audiences and music lovers throughout the world than Altan. See this iconic band at MCIF. The Willis Clan from Season 9 of America’s Got Talent and named by NBC’s TODAY Show as “America’s Modern Day von Trapp Family” from right here in Nashville will perform new original material from their highly anticipated third album in May 2015 and peaked at #6 on the iTunes pop charts. Belfast musicians will be well represented by Beat Root vocalist Andrea Magee, X Factor UK contestant, and songwriters from the Belfast Nashville Songwriters Festival. Southern Academy of Irish Dance, under the direction of Aoibheann O’Brien (Riverdance) and Kristin Butke (Lord of the Dance) will be showing off their moves along with the Nashville Irish Step Dancers. There will be something for everyone.
