The National Zoo & Aquarium is privately owned, and is Australia's only combined Zoo and Aquarium - that's 2 attractions in one! We are situated on around 18 hectares of land just five minutes from the centre of Canberra. With a wide variety of both native and exotic animals, as well as the largest inland saltwater tank in Australia, there is something for everyone. Wander in and have a casual stroll around the park, or make a day of it with family, friends and make use of our picnic areas and complimentary BBQ facilities. We are best known for our amazing "up close and personal" animal encounters, which provide visitors with an opportunity to get up close and personal with some of the worlds most amazing creatures! To inspire and assist in the conservation of the natural world through innovative and exciting educational experiences.
How To Get to National Zoo & Aquarium Canberra
Bus to the Zoo everyday! Number 81 or 981 from Civic Interchange. For Bus timetable see our website or Action buses. Otherwise, we are only about a 5 minute Taxi ride from the centre of the city, or 10 minutes from the airport.

Keeper Talks and other activities take place most weekends, school holidays, and public holidays. For the game and adventurous; Book an interactive experience with our Cheetahs - You can pat a cheetah on the Meet-a-Cheetah encounter which will see you inside a cheetah enclosure with one of the zoo’s expert keepers. (no fences!) Take part in the amazing Walk on the Wild Side Tour - an amazing all day animal encounter that lets you experience life as a "Keeper for a Day" Or perhaps the award winning Zooventure Tour, where you get up close and personal with some of our amazing animals. Hand feed tigers and have bears lick honey from your fingers! Individual Animal Encounters are also available with a variety of animals - check our website for details. Interactive Tour Bookings: Please visit our website to make an online booking for any of our interactive Tours or Encounters. www.nationalzoo.com.au We are currently undergoing expansion works which will see the zoo more than triple in size.
