Found in 2001, Neruda Arts is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to building bridges in our community through music, dance, drama, and visual arts from around the world.
Neruda Arts’ philosophy includes striving to present culturally diverse performances that would otherwise be under-represented in Canada. We are also focused on collaborating with our volunteers, who are mainly students from the region of Waterloo, especially those students benefiting from English as a Second Language classes, to produce quality programming. While supporting arts from around the globe, Neruda Arts has a strong focus on presenting work from New Canadian and emerging artists as they develop their craft in a Canadian context. Neruda Arts is dedicated to the artistic development of local artists, and the career development of professional artists working within our areas of focus, while striving to foster and expand audiences for diverse art forms locally, nationally and internationally. To educate and increase public understanding and appreciation of the Arts by providing performances of an artistic nature that foster greater cultural understanding and cultural diversity within the community, by developing, producing and promoting creative ventures, artistic pursuits and community building opportunities, in the fields of dance, literary, music, visual arts and theatre.
ABOUT NERUDA ARTS Note : THIS IS A NERUDA ARTS YOUTH PAGE !!! Neruda Arts began as a coincidence, a work of fate and dreams combined. It was Neruda Arts’ Founder and Artistic Director, Isabel Cisterna’s perception that we needed more diverse performances in the Waterloo region. From her own experience of coming from another country, Chile, and trying to be a part of the ever ‘evolving’ arts community here, she believed that there was an opportunity to raise awareness about how much we can all benefit from celebrating our diversity. She discovered her goal, her purpose and her philosophy and translated it all into a new passion: NERUDA ARTS. After a long road and with the help of many amazing people, Neruda Arts became the product of that passion and the beginning of a great reality. Neruda’s goal is to build bridges between the Arts communities, and bring together existing and newly arrived talent coming here from all over the world to make Waterloo Region their home. Its purpose is to build a more inclusive arts community and develop a wider audience base. Neruda’s philosophy is that by providing an evening of powerful, emotional and enlightening theatre, visual ads, performance, concerts and exhibitions, we will all learn more about each other and celebrate in the ever-changing richness and diversity of our collective cultural heritage.
