Description

Ninefold is a Sydney-based theatre ensemble dedicated to the exploration, application and ongoing practice of the Suzuki Method of Actor Training in the Australian theatre context. An experiment in sustained actor training, all theatre works by the ensemble are examined, rehearsed and performed through the lens of the Suzuki training. The Suzuki Method of Actor Training, created by world-renowned theatre director Tadashi Suzuki, is widely known to be rigorous and physically demanding in form. However, its beauty and depth lies in its subtle work with the imagination and the artist learning to manage their invisible body: that is their breath, their states of energy and their stillness. This page tracks the research, progress and challenges of Ninefold's ongoing training. Ninefold is led by Shy Magsalin, a Sydney-based director, actor and member of the International Suzuki Company of Toga in Japan.
