Description

Oregon Coast Council for the Arts (OCCA) presents the 11th annual international Oregon Coast Jazz Party, scheduled for Oct. 3-5, 2014 in Newport, Oregon. This year's lineup features vocalists Dee Daniels and Rebecca Kilgore, Ken Peplowski and Harry Allen on saxophone, Byron Stripling on trumpet, bassists Lynn Seaton and Tom Wakeling, guitarist Mimi Fox, Chuck Redd on vibes and drums, drummer Todd Strait, pianists Benny Green and Randy Porter, and two extraordinary ensembles: the Benny Green Trio (Benny Green on piano, David Wong on bass, and Rodney Green on drums), and the Swing Shift Jazz Orchestra with vibist Chuck Redd, playing the music of the Terry Gibbs Dream Band. OCCA, the founding organizational sponsor of the event, partners with local businesses and more than 60 volunteers in its production. Performances will take place at the Newport Performing Arts Center and at the Shilo Inn Suites Hotel, both in Newport. Oregon Coast Jazz Party follows the “jazz party” format, which means that the musicians appear in different combinations called “sets” during the three-day event. The festival's focus has always been to present world-class jazz in a beautiful coastal setting – and this year is no different: Music Director (and renowned jazz flutist in her own right) Holly Hofmann is already working on this year's roster. Support for the Oregon Coast Jazz Party is provided by the City of Newport and underwriter Rev.
