I'm a mathematician and a private tutor. This is a fan page for my students and their parents. I'll be posting links about maths and maths education.

Description

I am a mathematician at the University of Western Australia. I finished my PhD in pure mathematics in 2014. I have been running tutorials for MATH1001, marking test papers and worked in the Mathematics Learning Centre, a drop-in tutoring service for UWA students. I have five years experience tutoring students at UWA and one year experience with private tutoring in all levels of mathematics from high school through to university. I have an up-to-date Working With Children check and an ABN. I am friendly, approachable and receive many compliments from my students for my clear and understandable explanations of difficult concepts (references available on request). My students have shown improvements in their marks, and a stronger interest in maths. I am passionate about mathematics and teaching, and that comes through in my tutoring. As a mathematician I use the concepts I'm teaching every day, and I can explain them at a deeper level. In an average lesson I spend about 45 minutes covering the essential work the student is learning in class, and 15 minutes talking about related concepts such as the history, proofs, extensions and applications of the ideas. I can also set short, interesting homework exercises if required. I can come to your house or to a local library or cafe. A standard one hour lesson is $80, if you live within a 15 minute drive from my home office in Bayswater. Contact me for quotes for outside this area as travel rates will apply.
