Drive-In Movie The world’s first Drive-In Theatres (As known as drive-in cinemas or drive-ins) theatre opened in 1933 in New Jersey, America. In America ‘the drive-ins peak popularity came in the late 1950s and early 1960s, particularly in rural areas, with some 4,000 drive-ins spreading across the United States. Among its advantages was the fact that a family with a baby could take care of their child while watching a movie, while teenagers with access to cars found drive-ins ideal for dates’. Drive-In Theatres provided an outdoor screen which customers could watch from the privacy and comfort of their own cars. Sound was provided initially through speakers on the screen, but have later individual speakers for each car. The system was later superseded by broadcasting through a car’s radio system. Within the Canberra area we have had only ever had two Drive-In theatres; The Starlight (Watson, open January 1957 & closed in 1993) and Sundown (Narrabundah, opened in 1968 and closed in 1984) The old ways of bring the family down to the local drive-in, viewing a movie while in the comfort of your own car, sharing time quality time watching a movie. Bring it back for you to enjoy, is back!! We understand that the old painted white wall is very limited and the use of window mounted screen can be time consuming and limited. We use modem day inflatable (12m x 7m; 84m2) screen, using a High Deification Screen Projector. We broadcast to sound directly to your car, thought your own car stereo. . Our Market target is ranged from kid's, though to the older generations that once experienced the in there child upbringing. We are committed to showing a variety of movie, both old movie that where shown, in the classic drive-ins (e.g. Jaws, Sound of Music etc.) and the latest movie like screening in current movie centres (e.g. Star wars 7 etc.)
