QWAAF raises money for the West Africa AIDS Foundation, an NGO in Ghana. Our efforts support people living with HIV/AIDS in Ghana; every cent we raise goes directly towards helping them live a better life through medication, education, and empowerment.
West Africa AIDS Foundation – Queen’s Chapter (QWAAF) aims to support local efforts in combating HIV/AIDS/STI and its related stigma, mainly in Ghana. We want to support and provide better opportunities for those who are poor and affected by HIV/AIDS to receive basic education and adequate health care. The main project that we will be funding for is Orphans and Vulnerable Children project. The project aims to support children who have been affected by HIV/AIDS in their growth and schooling. In this way, we are supporting local efforts in providing them with a chance to break out of the poverty cycle with a most powerful tool – education! The clinic at WAAF is underfunded in terms of supplies. Also, because many Ghanaians cannot afford the HIV/AIDS medication and check-ups, WAAF subsidizes the costs. We achieve our revenue goals by hosting several events around Queen’s campus throughout the school year. Mainly fundraisers such as bake sales, contests, and club events. We also hold many events to raise awareness, such as an Educational Speaker Panel, a World AIDS Day flash mob, and Queen's Tricolour Openhouse. We believe that by providing the Queen’s and Kingston population with firsthand knowledge on these issues, we will be able to work together to raise awareness and attain our financial support goals.
