Description

Ravencroft Graphics and Fine Art and its artists use a variety of formats, from traditional methods such as oils on canvas to new computer based graphic design programs with the addition of large format graphic art and printing. We are new, we are passionate about art and we plan to share that with the world. We are newly based out of Matsuyama, Ehime, Japan. Please follow us on twitter as well as on our main website for updates and information as well. Media, in all its forms, is the most influential and pervasive entity in today's society, and we need to grab it and take the reins of control back to steer it towards greater social responsibility, to promote environmental awareness, and promote positive social change. We see, hear, taste, smell and feel our environments, our senses help us interpret our world and those around us in it and we need to take greater responsibility in what we put out there to be absorbed and ultimately influence our thoughts and behaviours. We need to become more socially responsible as corporations, businesses, governments, individuals. I've just retired from a long career in fire/emergency services to switch paths completely. I gave up everything, and moved to Japan with my son to start our own 'start up' company specializing in graphic and traditional art with the goal of initially giving local artists a place to develop their talent and then to create art, to expand that to today's youth with an eye to those who do not have the means and opportunity to create, innovate and promote change through media. I wanted to give you a bit of information on background of the company I set out to build from the bottom up, how and why we came to be and what we are setting out to do with our new little company as I feel that if you understand us and what makes us 'tick' then you will be able to envision what our goal and dream is and what we want to become. I chose to create a company that has the potential to shape the minds and perceptions of people of all ages, to promote social awareness and ethics, and as a platform to create art that inspires people to be better, treat others better, live better. Seems like a pretty lofty idea right? I was nervous about the change myself, afterall I was giving up stability, 40 hours a week plus benefits punching a time clock to essentially recreate my life in a whole new country on a completely different life path. What it all boiled down to was I did not like what was happening or what i was seeing, everywhere, and wanted to try and see if I could do something to change that. We are the creators, the architects, of what we put out there for today's youth to see and emulate, we need to change what we are feeding them, in what we give them to see and learn, we need to give them an outlet that is productive, and that will help build our nations futures to be strong and safe. We need to enable them to think as individuals, not crowds or groups. Individuals spark ingenuity through imagination, they bring ideas to the group for them to build on, but we are losing that driving individual force that propels societies forward, we are losing this to desensitisation, violence, and yes unequal treatment based on gender, race, religion and orientation. We like to tell ourselves "No, our society isn't like that anymore" but what we are really doing is trying to convince ourselves of this lie, and that is what it is, a lie. I got tired of lying to myself. I got sick of seeing those around me do the same. I lost my sense of sympathy and empathy for others as so many of us in emergency services do over years of it wearing you down. I wasn't changing anything really. Yes I helped people but I had no real lasting impact, no follow up or real 'teaching moments' that I could make a solid impact on anyone. My passion became a job, which was when I realized THAT was the problem. I needed to change my direction, my views, and apply my ideas on my own terms, to promote and inspire change in a way which reaches everybody on every level. I wanted to foster that same same passion for positive change in others as well. I had an idea.... and I was going to make it a reality. I had an idea, and turned I that idea into a plan, and then made sure I pursued that plan until I made it a reality. Now that I've re-designed my own mold, I can help others to do the same and start making a real difference in the everyday lives of everyday people. I can give them that chance to pursue something they enjoy, and to make that difference. My goal is to eventually open the opportunity internationally, giving young and marginalized artists the chance to make their mark, become known, and through positive media and education start to change how people think, act, and speak to each other. Instead of graffiti on walls I want to see it on large canvases for everyone to enjoy. Instead of fighting and bullying out of anger, fear, frustration or just plain lack of anything better to do I want to see all that energy channeled into creation. Creation could be in any format of traditional art and including new digital and computer based graphic art. It could also include writing-books, novels, articles or even music. Working in the public sector in both fire and EMS service in urban and rural settings, I saw how increasingly negative, violent, and horrible people were increasingly treating those around them, it's a cycle of perpetuation of learned behaviors, behaviors we need to change before we lose this current generation of children, teens, and young adults, and with it our futures as nations. I wanted to do something to not just change my own life, but to position myself in such a way as to be able to do something to help fix the problem. I needed to step back and 're-design' my own mold, to change me before I set about helping to change what was around me. To me, a company isn't just a job to make money or to accumulate wealth, it's a place where you can create, share, build, and inspire change. That change may be in lifestyles, thought processes, objects and devices or social mores and viewpoints. Creating and causing change in itself isn't enough though, we have to create and cause the RIGHT kind of change, the positive and socially responsible kind. We need to start looking and thinking long term instead of in immediate gains and short term objective. We need to start thinking and acting I plan to do my part by giving the local and eventually global community an outlet to turn their emotions and stresses into positive art, whether it is on canvas, emerging computer based graphics, sculpture or some new form they imagine and then create. People weren't meant to fit into molds, they were meant to imagine great things, and then to make them happen. I want to give them that chance. Creating art for art's sake, while noble, doesn't change the world or the perceptions of those living in it. Creating art with a purpose to change the world and with an aim to make it better, safer and more beautiful for everyone is our goal, our dream. To make people stop and think, ponder, imagine and dream is a beautiful thing. When I decided to retire from my current career in 2013, I made the decision to pursue a new career doing what I love and to further develop my skills while developing them into a marketable asset. I had also decided at that time that I had wanted to relocate and live in a country I fell in love with when I was there in 2012, so I took the next logical step and made the decision that I was going to make that happen in the city I decided to make my new home. I have been creating abstract and modern art through traditional methods via oils on canvas and traditional photography for over 20 years as a hobby and also in computer based rendering. This is also the first time I am 'publishing' on LinkedIn, and as we grow, I grow, I will share what we learn along the way. Bottom line, we need to be more conscious and responsible about what we feed our minds, media is a powerful animal that can destroy or build up. We need to re-design the molds we use in advertising, entertainment, and information decimation.
