RCA was created in 1972 as an artist-run, community-based organization that fosters the development and showcasing of indigenous Newfoundland art and artists. The Centre’s accomplishments in this direction have been impressive, including: - More than 90 original Mainstage productions - A long list of professional artists who have gone on to national prominence and an equally long list of artists who remain committed to the Newfoundland and Labrador cultural milieu including Mary Walsh, Rick Mercer, Greg Thomey, Cathy Jones, Andy Jones, Bob Joy, Ron Hynes, Mark Critch, Jonny Harris, Jillian Keiley, Lois Brown, Joel Hynes, Sherry White, Des Walsh, Chris Brookes, Ed Riche, Robert Chafe, and Berni Stapleton. - Hundreds of young artists who have been given the opportunity to “find their voice” and develop their creative talents. Our season is composed of two Main Stage productions (one of which may be a TYA production), several second space productions in our Significant Other Series, an emerging artists series, in addition to several developmental workshop programs. RCAT is a member of the Professional Association of Canadian Theatres (PACT).
