HOW SAMANTHA’S PURPOSE HAS ALREADY MADE A DIFFERENCE Samantha's Purpose was started in 2007 as an idea in the backyard of Michelle and Manny Garcia's house, while dining with some very good friends. The first fundraiser was Samantha's 3rd birthday party and was a huge success. In February, 2009, Samantha’s Purpose received notification that their application for 501(c)(3) IRS status had been approved. Immediately the organization became fund raising. Since that time, the monies raised have been used as follows: • July 2009 - two (2) young boys with Cerebral Palsy received Grants for therapy services. The Grants awarded allowed these children to receive approximately 3 months of therapy at the Martha Ware Rehabilitation Center at Baptist Hospital. • In 2010, Samantha’s Purpose was instrumental in raising $4,000.00 to purchase a wheelchair for a 4 year old boy with Cerebral Palsy, and various other health issues. He is not entitled to Government assistance and his private insurance refused to pay for the wheelchair that both his doctors and therapists insisted was needed. • Summer 2010 - three (3) children with Cerebral Palsy were awarded scholarships so that they could attend a summer camp for children with Special Needs. The Creative Adventures Camp allowed these children the chance to go on field trips, enjoy their summer and receive therapy services. • January 2011 - a Grant was awarded to a young boy in order that he could continue to receive therapeutic riding sessions at Good Hope Equestrian Center in the Redlands area of Miami. • January 2011 - funds were donated to Villa Lyan (a school for children with Special Needs) so that they could purchase a special swing for wheelchair bound children and to purchase much needed equipment. • February 2011 - provided a Grant to a young boy with Autism so that he could receive Speech therapy. • April 2011 - donated funds to the Archangel Raphael Foundation for children with Down’s Syndrome. • Summer 2011 - two (2) children were awarded scholarships to attend summer camp programs. One of the children attended the summer camp at Creative Adventure Camp. The other child attended the summer camp at Carpe Diem Academy. • December 2011 - two (2) children were awarded Grants to participate in an Intensive Therapy Program at Blossoms Developmental Therapy Associates in Coral Gables, Florida. • January 2012 - a child with Cerebral Palsy was awarded a Grant to participate in the Intensive Therapy Program at Blossoms Developmental Therapy Associates in Coral Gables, Florida. • March 2012 - two children were provided with Grants to be used to cover the cost of physical therapy services. • April 2012 – funds were donated to Carpe Diem Academy so that they could purchase an iPad to be used in the classroom to help children with Cerebral Palsy communicate. • June, 2012 – grants of $2,000 were provided to two (2) children over the summer so they could participate in the Intensive Therapy Program at Blossoms Developmental Therapy Associates. • September 2012 – provided two (2) grants for children with Cerebral Palsy to take part in an intense therapy program at Blossoms Developmental Therapy Associates. • October 2012 – provided one (1) partial grant for a 2 year old boy with Cerebral Palsy to take part in an intense therapy program at Blossoms Developmental Therapy Associates. • October 2012 – fully funded an art therapy program that will last 4 weeks (from October 13th through November 7th) for 12 children with varying disabilities (i.e. Cerebral Palsy, Autism, Down’s Syndrome). The art program is called “Shadow of Light” and is being offered at no cost to the families. - March 2013 - provided a grant to a young boy with Autism so that he could receive 8 sessions of Art Therapy. - Summer 2013 - provided grants to 2 children so they could attend summer camp. - March 2014 - was successful in having the City of Miami, Miami-Dade County and Miami Dade College acknowledge and commemorate Cerebral Palsy Awareness Day on March 25, 2014. Samantha's Purpose (together with Blossom's Therapy Center) received proclamations from the City of Miami and Miami-Dade County Commissioners designating March 25th as CEREBRAL PALSY AWARENESS DAY. June 2014 - provided a grant to a young boy with Cerebral Palsy so that he could participate in an Intensive Therapy Program at Blossom's Therapy Center. Summer 2014 - provided a full summer camp scholarship to a young man with Cerebral Palsy. July 2014 - was able to provide a grant to a young lady with Cerebral Palsy so that her parents could purchase the customized wheelchair for her. August 2014 - provided a grant to a young lady with Tristomy 13 so that she could receive 10 sessions of Art Therapy.

Miami's most internationally and artistically diverse art complex! In the 1980's, Helene Pancoast, Ellie Schneiderman, Faith Atlass, David and Nathalie Nadel, George Fishman and Ann Sams began a search of older buildings throughout the county which could be purchased, an important criterion to prevent the artists from being forced out by gentrification or rising land values at a later date. In 1984, a 2.3-acre complex of several buildings was located in Wynwood. Originally built in the early 1920's as the American Bakeries Company, the buildings had been unoccupied and available for sale. The Bakehouse Art Complex, Inc. (BAC) was soon formed as a not for profit corporation and purchased the property in 1986. The process of retrofitting the facility into working studios and exhibition galleries began in earnest and the Bakehouse Art Complex formally opened in early 1987. In the late 1980's after being deluged with requests from local schools, social service agencies, family shelters and individuals, the Bakehouse started outreach programs. The Bakehouse initiated the Children's Art Workshops, a program so successful, it led to recognition by the President's (Clinton) Committee on the Arts and the Humanities. The vision of the founders, in purchasing the one half city block property, assures the Bakehouse Art Complex will be here to provide affordable rents for artists in perpetuity. Over the years, the Bakehouse has continued to upgrade its facility. Currently comprised of two galleries, a classroom, print room, photo lab, ceramic kiln room, woodworking and welding areas, and seventy individual artist studios, these extensive facility offerings allow artists to discover, cross over, or integrate other media into their work. From its inception, the Bakehouse Art Complex has provided emerging and mid-career artists with the opportunity to creatively explore and develop their artistic endeavors. The uniqueness of the Bakehouse is its ability to provide an engaging environment to its artists by inspiring and encouraging each other, and informing and attracting new artists. As part of its long-term commitment to the art community, the BAC's educational programming is now focused on artist advancement and plans are now underway for the next stage of development. The Bakehouse has evolved, as has the professional level of the art community of Miami. The artists, who pass a jury panel to be accepted, come from many different states and countries bringing with them many different intellectual, social and artistic experiences. By attracting and involving new audiences into the contemporary and culturally enriching world of the visual arts, the BAC continues to be an accessible vital resource to the diverse and dynamic South Florida art community and its patrons. The Bakehouse Art Complex is tax exempt as a 501 (C)(3) not-for-profit institution.
