Description

Saskatoon's North Saskatchewan Army Cadet Corps have built Saskatoon's largest and most active youth program. We pride ourselves on being Saskatoon's best organization for young adults, providing a fun, meaningful, and challenging program to every member involved with the Corps, at absolutely no cost to our members. Saskatoon's North Saskatchewan Regiment Cadets are composed of two legally distinct corps, 3071 RCACC and 2293 RCACC, which work together to provide a common training structure for cadets. At the age of 12 or 13, a first-year cadet can expect to participate in challenging field training, rappelling, orienteering, biathlon, marksmanship, parade drill, canoeing, military band, and first aid. The opportunity to attend a two week summer camp in Vernon, BC, Penhold, AB, or Whitehorse, YT can be earned by every first year cadet. At the age of 13 and 14, upper year cadets are given leadership opportunities which allow them to help make the Corps function, and help to develop first-year cadets. Some cadets are chosen as Section Commanders, and given charge of Sections (6 - 10 cadets). Second and third-year cadets have the opportunity to attend more advanced three-week camps in Vernon, BC, Whitehorse, YT, or Cold Lake, AB. At ages 15 and older, senior cadets are given advanced leadership opportunities, and may be called upon to hold delegated authority over Platoons (20 - 30 cadets), Companies (40 - 90 cadets), or the entire Battalion (150 cadets). At the age of 15, cadets can participate in the Leadership and Challenge course at Rocky Mountain Cadet Summer Training Center. At the age of 16, cadets can be selected for advanced training and international exchanges; in the past five years, cadets from 2293 Army Cadet Corps have gone to Sweden, the United States, England, and Wales, and one member has completed the Canadian Forces Basic Parachutist Course. Cadets who are 16-and-a-half may also complete a seven-week summer staff position, where senior cadets are paid a daily wage of between sixty and seventy-two dollars to lead other cadets. Adult members work with senior cadets to make the program function and provide overall direction and activity. Most adults working choose to enrol in the Canadian Forces as members of the Cadet Instructors Cadre, a branch of the Canadian Forces responsible for the supervision and administration of the cadet program. Members who enrol work toward a Canadian Forces commission - the legal document that authorizes officers at or above the rank of Second Lieutenant in Canada's Armed Forces to exercise command responsibility. Members who choose not to enrol may still work as civilian volunteers. Before working directly with cadets, all adults must complete extensive background checks and suitability screening. We are fun, friendly, fair, and will give you experiences you will never forget. Click on the links above to learn about our Companies and meet some of our staff. If cadets sounds like it might be for you, or someone you know, you won't lose anything but an hour of your time by coming down on a Monday or Wednesday night to see what our program is all about!
