REGISTRATION FOR THE 2016-17 USCC IS OPEN FROM OCTOBER 1 - 31, 2016. FIND OUT MORE AND REGISTER AT http://scinapsescience.com/uscc/ Scinapse UW exists to facilitate experiential learning in the sciences by fielding teams to compete and represent UW at the annual Undergraduate Science Case Competition (USCC). Founded in 2014 at Western, the USCC is based on the principle that science is about much more than simply regurgitating information on an exam; it's about innovation, creativity, and the application of knowledge to real-world issues. The USCC is a fantastic outlet to explore your scientific creativity and kickstart your career in research. Why should you compete? 1. Gain valuable experience and skills necessary for a career in scientific research 2. Network with like-minded peers and distinguished academics/researchers 3. Win medals and prizes at the provincial round 4. Significantly enhance your CV, opening the doors to research positions in labs, as well as improving graduate/professional school applications 5. Chance to have your proposal published in undergraduate student journals 6. Represent the University of Waterloo at a provincial level Additional details: -Round 1 of the USCC will require you, in groups of 2-4, to write a research proposal to tackle a real-world issue -The top 10% of submissions from UW will be invited to compete against other finalists from universities across Ontario in round 2, which will be a conference weekend hosted at Western University. -In round 2, you will present your research proposal as an oral poster presentation to a panel of judges. Other events during the weekend will include socials, workshops and an awards ceremony. -Poster printing, travel and accommodation expenses will be covered by Scinapse (UW).
