Shalom Christian College is a Uniting Church, Prep to 12, co-educational school in Townsville. It was founded in 1992 by visionary members of Congress, the Indigenous arm of the Uniting Church, and since then, has achieved much success in providing a culturally inclusive curriculum which leads to real pathways for predominantly Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students. Shalom is committed to a full and complete education for all students but specialises in a Christian education for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students. This education is in the context of the Australian Curriculum, Indigenous Culture and the teachings of Christ as practiced by the Uniting Church. The campus is located on Hervey’s Range Road, Condon. It is opposite the North Queensland Cowboy's Football stadium enabling boarding students’ easy access to home games. It is 2km from the Willows shopping centre. The school is privileged to be set on 28 hectares of treed land which gives students ample space to walk and play. Shalom caters for Prep to Year 6 (Primary for day students) and Year 7 to Year 12 for day and boarding students. To support the students’ attendance and learning, Shalom operates a bus service for day students and provides all students with breakfast. The Primary school has a focus on literacy and numeracy. The Secondary school offers scholarships in Sport, Indigenous Health and in VET programmes. We support the whole student and as part of this, all students have access to the full time school nurse. Boarding students have access to a Doctor who visits the college during the week. All students are provided with regular health checks. The school caters for up to 160 boarding students who are provided with afterschool and weekend activities which both interest and extend their skills and development. After studying, I completed my teaching "country service" in Charters Towers. We moved to Townsville in 2012 and bought our house in Deeragun, where I live with my husband and our 18 month old Son. I am a Bachelor Qualified teacher with 10 years experience. I have worked in Primary and High Schools in a range of areas including: learning support, behaviour support and school administration. During this time I also completed my Certificate IV in Training and Assessment. In 2012 I completed my certificate III in Children's Services (Childcare) and went on to complete my Diploma in Children's Services (Childcare) in 2013. I also hold a Supervisors Certificate. Inspiring Minds was opened in February 2015. In addition to running my own day-care I tutor adult learners for a couple of hours per week at TAFE in the childcare curriculum. I have my Blue card and current Teachers Registration with the Queensland College of Teachers. I hold a current First Aid certificate and CPR with asthma and anaphylaxis. I usually close on Public Holidays and QLD State School Holidays (open for Student Free Days) however, I am able to negotiate a mutually beneficial schedule. Fees $8.90 per hour (inclusive of all scheme fees) An 8hr minimum daily booking applies. I am CCB/CCR approved. You may elect to pay the full fee and be reimbursed by Centrelink or authorise your Centrelink payments through Lady Gowrie.
