The University of New Mexico Hospital is a teaching hospital located in Albuquerque, New Mexico, north of The University of New Mexico's Main Campus. It is the only Level I Trauma Center in the State of New Mexico, and also houses the only Children's Hospital and Burn Unit in the state.UNMH is the state's sole source of 13 pediatric sub-specialties; is the state's sole stroke center as designated by the Joint Commission. Besides being the state's primary source of tertiary care, UNMH s also the region's primary safety-net hospital. The hospital cares for a disproportionate share of New Mexico's un- and under-insured population.It is also the primary teaching hospital for the UNM School of Medicine, which is located on the hospital campus. As of early 2009, the hospital has 580 certified beds.In June 2007, a new addition to the hospital opened its doors to the public. The Barbara and Bill Richardson Pavilion, named after New Mexico Governor Bill Richardson and his wife Barbara, is a, six-story addition to the main hospital building. The $225 Million addition took approximately 3 years to build, and houses a greatly expanded emergency room as well as expanded intensive care units, pediatric operating rooms, birthing suites, as well as improved children's inpatient wards.UNMH has won many awards for its quality:As of 2011, it has been acknowledged with the following recognition:As a University Health System Consortium 4 stars hospital, placing UNMH in the upper third of academic health centers nationally.
