Summer Jobs Service
The Ontario Government sponsors this wage subsidy program as an incentive for employers to hire students. To be eligible for SJS, you must a student returning to school in September and be between the ages of 15 and 29. Many employers want to hire students through the Summer Jobs Service (SJS) and they need to know that you are registered with the program. You can register on-line through the KEYS web site.
Summer Jobs for Youth
The Summer Jobs for Youth Program runs from July to August. Participants can work 20-35 hours per week for 6 weeks and receive minimum wage. If you are between 15 and 18, living in Kingston or Frontenac County and are not currently employed, the SJFY program may be for you. We host program information sessions in June and the date and time will be posted on the KEYS web site.
Student Employment Centre
Come in to our Resource Centre and check it out! - access to computers with internet, printers, photocopiers, fax machines, phones, and resume resources. We are open until 6.00 pm on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday evenings specifically to help students. From May to August, we also have a specialised Student Employment Centre - open Monday to Friday, 8.30am-4.30pm.
Workshops
We offer workshops to give you the skills you need to get the job! We deliver a variety of exciting workshops to help you explore career options and gain job search skills. For our specialized certifications such as Smart Serve, Service Excellence, Fall Arrest or Worker Safety Awareness, please call to register.
Volunteer Initiative Program
Be a VIP for the summer! This exciting program is offered in two sessions in July and August. It gives younger students an opportunity to develop a resume, gain self-awareness, explore career options and gain 2-weeks volunteer experience. These hours can be counted towards the Community Service requirement for high school graduation AND can often lead to employment for the following summer.
