About Team Ronin: As Ottawa’s original school of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, and the first MMA team in Ottawa, we strive to be open-minded and supportive towards the continued growth of our team and our Jiu-Jitsu, while maintaining the integrity of our martial art. We believe in identifying the natural strengths of our students and working with them to develop their core competencies. We test ourselves each and every time we step out on the mats, whether in training, or in competition; A simple formula that guarantees personal growth. Jiu-Jitsu is truly a lifestyle that is waiting to be embraced and will only provide a life time of rewards to those who are open to it. Brazilian Jiu Jitsu ------------------------ Team Ronin offers a progressive BJJ curriculum that is structured so that students are able to learn and advance at their own pace. If your interest in BJJ is purely recreational our program offers you the chance to have fun while getting in great shape and learning practical self defence. For students looking to train for competitions our program has produced a very successful BJJ Team that has competed across the world at all of the major tournaments including the IBJJF Worlds/ Pan-Ams/ No-Gi Pan-Ams/ Asian Open, World Professional Jiu-Jitsu Cup, ADCC Submission Wrestling World Championship, NAGA's, and numerous other Canadian and local tournaments. What is Jiu-Jitsu all about? Primarily a self defense art form based around close proximity to one’s opponent, Jiu-Jitsu uses a series of grips, positions and leverage to out manoeuvre an opponent, while applying techniques such as joint locks and chokes to subdue them. Jiu-Jitsu focuses on applying techniques to defend one’s self rather than relying on power.
