The Professional Massage Therapy Program at Tennessee School of Massage, located in beautiful Memphis, TN consists of four eight-week sessions in the theory and practice of massage therapy totaling seven hundred hours. Full time students attend classes four days/nights a week. Part time evening students attend three evenings per week with additional time scheduled for clinic. Check our Class Schedule for days and times. Our full-time program runs over a nine month period, divided into four eight week sessions. The curriculum is an integration of courses from three areas including Allied Sciences, Massage Techniques and Personal Growth. Required courses include Anatomy, Physiology, Nutrition, Swedish Massage, Sports Massage, Hydrotherapy Techniques, Introduction to Acupressure, Therapeutic Touch and extensive hands-on Clinical Practice.
Tennessee School of Massage has an externship program in partnership with Living Health Day Spa. The externship experience prepares students to go out into the real world, by providing graduates with a behind the scenes look at how a massage business works. The educational experience is further enhanced by health forums, visiting lecturers and practitioners and volunteer projects in athletic events. Upon successful completion of the program, graduates receive a diploma and may apply to the Tennessee Massage Licensing Board for their state license or the respective boards of Arkansas, Mississippi or various other states. Students come from every part of the United States to become massage therapists in health spas, chiropractic offices, cruise ships, physical therapy clinics, hospitals, retirement communities, athletic clubs, beauty salons, or their own private practice.
The program at TSOM prepares students for the National Certification Examination for Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork Licensing Examination, as well as the MBLEX.The massage program at TSOM also satisfies the Tennessee Massage Licensure Board and enables students to apply for Massage Therapy Licensure in Mississippi and Arkansas.
The Tennessee School of Massage is authorized for operation as a post-secondary educational institution by the Tennessee Higher Education Commission. This authorization must be renewed each year and is based on an evaluation by minimum standards concerning quality of education, ethical business practices, health and safety, and fiscal responsibility.
