At the ESMC, a sport injury includes all musculoskeletal, orthopaedic injuries or medical problems that are affecting a person's ability to participate in a sport or activity. Although the injury does not have to be suffered during a sport, often it is preventing an individual from daily activities, whether it is walking up stairs or playing an elite sport. 2.Who can come to our clinic? Anyone who has a musculoskeletal or orthopaedic injury that is preventing them from daily activities, recreational exercise, or sports events can receive treatment at our clinic. If you have not been seen by a doctor, you are welcome to see one of our sports medicine specialists. Otherwise, we have an extensive list of rehabilitation practices available here. We DO NOT see motor vehicle accident or WSIB cases. 3.Do I come directly or go to my family doctor first? Although referrals from a doctor are welcome at the ESMC, they are not required. Anyone with an injury outlined above can make an appointment at our clinic. 4.How long is the waiting period? The waiting period differs depending on the season and what health care practitioner you would like to see. Generally, we can provide you with an appointment within a week of you contacting us. 5.Are services covered by OHIP? The doctors visits are covered by Ontario Health Insurance Program (OHIP) for eligible patients so there is no charge if you bring your OHIP card. We are a private clinic for all other services, meaning there is a fee for the service. Many extended health care plans will assist in these payments. We recommend you call your insurance company prior to contacting us so you know what is covered and for how much you are covered. 6.What should I wear and/or bring to an appointment? We recommend you wear appropriate clothing to expose the area being assessed for all appointments. We have a change rooms on site for your convenience. For all doctors appointments, it is also advisable to bring all x-rays or tests done to date. This may require going to where the tests have been done and requesting/obtaining them.
