It speaks to community building, leadership, philanthropy, and empathy. All of these have been at the heart of what The KWCF does since it officially began in 1984. Community foundations are often a community's best kept secret, but our story is simple: We Build, We Invest, and We Lead. WE BUILD We build assets and other funds to provide lasting support for our community’s priorities. We make giving easy and effective by accepting a wide variety of gifts, and providing donors with a number of charitable options. You can contribute cash, stocks, property, and other assets. You may establish a fund in your name, or in the name of a loved one. In most cases, your gift qualifies for a maximum tax advantage under federal law. At The KWCF, asset building also includes knowledge and relationships. By building our knowledge of community issues and opportunities, as well as developing and maintaining strategic relationships, The KWCF provides a strong foundation for community development. WE INVEST We know how important it is to invest in our community, so it is at the core of what we do. We invest in our community using all of our assets. We leverage our relationships and our community knowledge to invest dollars strategically to support the areas of critical need facing Kitchener, Waterloo, and area. We have 149 funds, and hold over $86.9 million in managed assets. To date, we have granted over $41 million to local charities and non-profit organizations who work directly in our communities. When you make a donation to The KWCF, we invest that gift into a permanent endowment fund. Your original gift isn’t spent. Instead, it generates income that is then distributed through grants to support a wide range of charitable causes within our community. A gift to The KWCF is a gift that gives back to the community forever. WE LEAD Our business is building community. We are proud to act as a catalyst to encourage discussion on key topics, engage future leaders in philanthropy, and work towards developing a community with a sense of belonging where everyone can truly make a difference.
