The Bowden Railway Station, built in 1856 and heritage listed. It is Australia's oldest railway station (pre-dated by Melbourne's Flinders St station which was started in 1854 but not finished until 1910). The railway station is on Adelaide's Outer Harbour line, placed at the end of a tree lined street off Port Road 2.7 kms from Adelaide city. The large gums that surround the station sway quietly when there is a breeze, remove the sting of the summer sun and place a pleasant eucalyptus scent in the air. The station is situated across the road from the Adelaide Entertainment Centre and is adjacent to the famous Governor Hindmarsh Hotel (aka 'The Gov' for any non-Adelaideians). The owners have always loved Adelaide; old buildings; coffee; great food; atmosphere and creating spaces where people love to meet and have a memorable time. Despite its' former dilapidated state, they have restored the Bowden Railway Station to its original glory in a way that is respectful of its surrounds and deep history, whilst adding amenities that breathe life back into the site – it's evolved into a contemporary cafe that is welcoming, memorable and easy to enjoy.
