Description

The Blood Donor Center has provided transfusion products and services to patients for more than 25 years. Our dedication and commitment continues today as the center collects blood/blood products from healthy volunteer donors and provides lifesaving blood products and therapeutic services to patients in several patient care areas, including: Blood and marrow transplantation Cancer Center Cardiothoracic surgery Children's Medical Center Women's health Trauma Center Organ transplantation Your blood donation helps us care for adults and children, including cancer patients, trauma victims, children with sickle cell anemia, and patients requiring organ transplants or heart surgery. In fact, UMass Memorial Medical Center uses about 31,000 blood products each year to meet the needs of our patients. Since donated blood can be stored for only a limited period and the need for blood is constant, donations are needed on a regular basis. Help us prevent a blood shortage and become a regular blood or platelet donor today! Appointments: To schedule an appointment, call 508-421-1950 and 508-421-1951. Appointments are required for platelet donations. Appointments may be made but are not needed for whole blood donations. *Walk-ins for whole blood donations are always welcome. Important Reminders: Donors must be healthy on the day of donation and must: 1. Eat well before donating 2. Drink plenty of fluids 3. Avoid any moderate or stressful exercise after donating Parking Free valet parking is available weekdays until 6 pm. Free parking is always available in the patient/visitor lots. The Blood Donor Center validates parking tickets.
