This year the members of the Zeta Psi fraternity of the University of Ontario Institute of Technology (UOIT) wish to hold a 36-hour car push festival fundraising event, with 100% of proceeds raised going towards to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada. Founded in 1952, the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada has been centered on educating individuals about the prevention and management of heart disease and stroke and to funding medical research regarding the causes of these conditions. Over the past 60 years, this organization has fundraised more than 1 billion dollars towards the understanding and prevention of heart disease and stroke. With more than 130,000 volunteers across 10 provinces, the Heart and Stroke Foundation represents one of Canada’s most well established fundraising organizations. As mentioned, on the weekend of March 8-10, the Zeta Psi fraternity will hold a 36-hour car push festival, in support of the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada. This event, taking place within the parking lot of the Oshawa Centre, and will contain not only the car push itself, but a large variety of additional attractions to better appeal to the greater community, all while providing a fun and inclusive way to promote and fundraise for the Heart and Stroke Foundation. Q. What is Zeta Psi? A. Zeta Psi is an internationally recognized fraternity with chapters all over the world. We focus on forging academic excellence and a sense of greater community outreach within all members. Q. Are you students? A. In short, yes. Every members of this fraternity is either currently or previously enrolled in studies at the University of Ontario Institute of Technology. Q. Where can I learn more about Zeta Psi? A. Feel free to visit our website at zetapsi.org Q. Is community involvement and charity work a usual aspect of the fraternity? A. Despite what the media tends to portray fraternities as, we do focus heavily on community involvement and charity initiatives both in the community and within our campus environment. In addition, we focus heavily on academic excellence and establishing networks to better suit the individual after graduation. Q. I own a company, and am interested in getting involved, what can I do? A. While the car push is going on, additional attractions will be available. We hope to have a section specifically where booths from various companies can be set up to promote their products, sell their products, or whatever goals they have. Simple e-mail the coordinator with your proposal and we’ll discuss everything in detail with you. If you aren’t a company with promotions as a desire, e-mail us anyways with any proposal, if you can dream it up, we’re more than happy to have you here. Q. What is my donation going to? A. 100% of all donations go directly to the Heart and Stroke Foundation. There will be no money spent on volunteers, start-up fees or anything of that nature. Q. Can I come? A. YES! Please do, and bring your family. As mentioned there are a ton of additional events and we’d love to see you there… pushing a car for 36 hours can get awfully lonely.
