A Hand Up is a 501c3 that was created to assist residents in the Metro Detroit area that have experienced trauma.
The Metro Detroit area has numerous individuals and families that have experienced some form of trauma and unfortunately many of these individuals don’t receive the necessary assistance to cope in a healthy and appropriate manner. Traumatic events can cause various types of dysfunction in an individual’s or family’s life; traumatic events can cause mental disorders (PTSD, anxiety, phobias, etc.), the inability to concentrate or think clearly can interfere with daily tasks (i.e. school, employment). Trauma disorder can cost the United States of America billions of dollars. Trauma is a harmful and costly problem that society has to deal with. Trauma is the result of violence, abuse, neglect, loss, disaster, war, and/or other emotionally harmful experiences. Trauma has no boundaries with regard to age, gender, socioeconomic status, ethnicity, geography or sexual orientation. A Hand Up Community Action Agency was developed to provide assistance to families that have suffered from trauma. Traumatic experiences shake the foundations of our beliefs. A Hand Up addresses the impact of trauma on individuals, families, and communities. A Hand Up wants to help individuals and families reduce negative emotional and behavioral responses that follow abuse, domestic violence, traumatic events or traumatic loss so that they can live productive lives. A Hand Up wants to empower these people and help them rebuild their lives.

HI! Grand Circus is excited to be holding two intensive bootcamps for Detroiters who want to become mobile developers or just get into the tech world. These bootcamps have the same goals of the $14,000 private bootcamps in Silicon Valley but because they're fully funded by a workforce development program, they don't cost students anything. We think you all would be great fits to apply. Check out the options: Android Bootcamp: 8 weeks of intensive learning for those with some developer background starting October 27th. Spread the word or learn more: http://bit.ly/GCAndroid QA Bootcamp: 5 weeks of intensive learning for those with little to no coding background, starting November 10th. Spread the word or learn more: http://bit.ly/GCQABootcamp In addition to getting trained in these technical skills, students will also get soft skill training and we'll help students get jobs with local tech companies. So, if you have any friends or family who want to get into the tech world, we'd love to meet them! Applications are due October 5.

Hello Family and Friends. I have created a 501c3 because of the need I see on a daily basis. I decided to be a solution instead of one of the many that complain about the problem. The foundation for A Hand Up is being built currently; if you want to assist in this endeavor let me know. You don't have to be a social worker to help someone, you just need to have a desire.
